The RDTC believes the "Freedom to Read" is a fundamental right to access information, ideas, and diverse viewpoints through reading, protected by the First Amendment, championed by organizations like Authors Against Book Bans, the American Library Association (ALA) , and the Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF), and promoted through events like the Right to Read Day on 10/11/2025 to counter censorship and promote open inquiry in libraries. Five Town DTC members and concerned citizens joined with the RDTC, Representative Mark Sylvia and Michelle Cusolito to learn about current efforts to pass Massachusetts House HR Bill #2328 and in its final amended form Senate Bill # 2726

regarding free expression. The amended bill MA S.2726 passed the Senate!!

Michelle Cusolito discusses book banning in Rochester, Authors Against Book Bans, and the current bill before the Senate which passed the following month after positive changes were made to the final bill.
